Don’t Let Things Go South – Protect Your Mouth!
A lot of our patients ask us about ways they can be an active participant in their oral health journey. We’re here to support you and give you the tools needed so you can achieve a healthy and happy smile!
Throughout your day, there are a lot of little things you can do to improve your dental health, hygiene, and confidence, and the good news is, you are probably already doing some of them!
Daily practices to keep your mouth cheery and clean:
- Bush Properly
According to the American Dental Association (ADA), brushing your teeth for 2 minutes, 2 times a day is the rule of thumb. Our team recommends listening to your favorite song while brushing! The ADA also recommends using fluoride toothpaste to help repair damaged or weak enamel, brushing all surfaces of your mouth (teeth, gums, tongue), and replacing your toothbrush every 3-4 months and after being sick.
- Less Sugary Drinks & Food, More Water
We love a good cup of joe and know it would be a hard ask to request you stop drinking your favorite sodas and juices. However, we encourage you to limit the amount of sugary drinks and food you have and increase the amount of water you drink, especially when eating. No matter what form sugar comes in, it plays a big role in the cavities or tooth pain you may or may not have come in to get treatment for. We want to help minimize and eliminate any future tooth decay!
- Floss
Here at Gaston Dental Associates, we take pride in knowing you floss like a boss at least once a day. Right? Yes! Flossing helps release food and plaque that build up in between your teeth. We know it may not be your favorite thing to do, but if you put on your favorite song, you can floss and brush your teeth all while jamming out!
These are just 3 easy ways to be an active participant in your journey of maintaining great oral health. Even if you practice all of our daily dental hygiene tips, we hope you can take an extra tidbit of information from our list to keep in your back pocket.
Our wonderful team here at Gaston Dental Associates are here to help and support you in any way we can. If you have yet to schedule your next appointment to come in to see us or are experiencing any tooth pain or discomfort, please give us a call at (704) 396 – 6166.
We can’t wait to see you at your next appointment and as always, let your smile shine!
