HOW TO PREVENT SENSITIVE TEETH
You first need to get a good understanding of how and why your tooth may be hurting. Sensitivity usually causes a sharp and sudden pain that can last anywhere from 30 seconds to two minutes. The reason why you get these sharp pains is because your teeth are sensitive when you eat or drink anything hot or cold, or anything that is excessively sugary. The enamel has been worn down and is exposing the dentin, where the nerves of your teeth are stored, and when they are exposed it will send that jolting pain through them. In some cases, people can experience this pain even when they are brushing or flossing their teeth.
If you have any cavities, cracked teeth, gum recession, or enamel or root erosion, all of these can trigger pain in sensitive teeth. Dentin contains thousands of little tubules that lead to your tooth’s pulp and when exposed to heat, cold, acidic and sticky substances this will cause the pain. Here is a list of some factors that can contribute to sensitive teeth.
· Brushing too hard with a hard-bristled toothbrush.
· Gum recession.
· Gingivitis.
· Cracked teeth.
· If you grind or clench your teeth.
· Plaque buildup
