The Dental Veneer Process: What To Expect
So, we have helped you determine that you are a good candidate for dental veneers, and now you’re ready to move forward in regaining confidence through your beautiful smile! Our experts at Gaston Dental Associates have put our heads together to create a quick run down of what you should expect going into the dental veneer process.
The dental veneer process can vary depending on the material we use to restore your teeth, however, ceramic and porcelain are the most common among our patients. Resin-based composite veneers are generally placed in just one appointment. When you have opted for ceramic or porcelain veneers, here’s what you can expect:
- Preliminary: You will need to come in for a consultation with one of our dentists so that we can ensure that veneers are the best method to restore your smile before beginning the process.
- Preparation: After it is certain that veneers are good for your individual oral health and history, we will first trim down a small amount of your tooth enamel. Then, an impression or mold is made of your teeth to send to a lab to prepare the veneers, which can take up to two weeks.
- Placement: When the veneers are ready, we will have you come back in to our office so that we can double check the fit and color of the veneers, making sure they are a proper match to your natural teeth. Each tooth (or teeth) is prepared for placement with a thorough cleaning, and then the tooth surface is made rough to improve the adhesion of the veneer. The veneer is attached to the tooth with a special cement, then ultraviolet light is used to harden it quickly and securely.
- Preservation: We will most likely want you to schedule a follow-up visit a few weeks after the initial procedure to be sure that your veneers are holding up properly as you have had time to go back to your usual eating and cleaning routine. A member of our team will also make sure to thoroughly go over the proper ways to maintain your new teeth after your dental veneer process has been completed.
